  1. Howdy Cory and Olga,

This is a somewhat rambly post about making the donation process easier. Two parts: the first one about making this page easier to find, the second about making the donation process itself smoother, including an offer to help in any way I can.

Part One: Could you do anything to make it easier to find the “donate a book” area from the landing page of It took me about 5 confused jumps to find this link.

    Two reasons:
    1) I assumed that the “donate a book” option would be a big, easy llnk to find

    2) It took me a while to figure out that I first had to find the book’s own, discrete page, which is different from“/ – that’s the link I get when I click “Homeland” from the /Novels/ directory, and seems to be essentially a mirror of the /News/ page.

The link to Homeland’s own page, with buying abilities, is in the sidebar; thankfully I figured that out in the end, but it could have been easier/smoother, and, well, friction hurts sales.

Part Two: The donation process itself is also a little clunky, with some extra steps that make things a little harder (friction again.) I’m sure a lot of the things involved could be automated by a coder more facile than I.

    Three simple ideas for now:
    * Breaking up the intro section of this page, specifically the “how to ask for a book” and “how to donate a book” sections, into usable, actionable bits, with some bold formatted titles.

*Placing some live links to places to buy the book, the process for doing so, throughout the page.

*Finally, you could use a plugin like Collapse-O-Matic or similar to make the long list into expandable/collapsible drop-downs organized by state or similar, to reduce the need for scrolling.

Hopefully these ideas have been useful, not obnoxious. They’re sent in gratitude for the countless hours you’ve spent informing the world and writing awesome books that you then give away for free to those who cannot afford them.

I’ve got some more complex ideas knocking around my head, love the idea of donating books/would love to make it easier, and would be happy to help if I can. Contact me if you’re interested in talking further.

    All the best,

  2. Just noticed that Little Brother’s /donate/ page has some of the formatting I talked about earlier. Glad to see it. Might still think about breaking up that into actionable -style chunks, instructables-stylee.

  5. Hey, Jakob! You can just fake a ph#, usually. (202) 456-1111 is the White House!

ZIP is the five-digit number. POB is the street address. State is the two-letter abbreviation!

    There IS a Spanish edition:

  8. Hi, I donated a copy to Joseph Toy, Westborough Middle School and I emailed you the receipt. Unfortunately, you still haven’t updated this page. I kindly request you to update the page so that other libraries have a better chance of getting a donation. Thanks.

  10. For folks at public schools in Ontario requesting copies — will your mailing address (the school address) accept deliveries during the summer?
