As I mentioned earlier, I'm giving a free talk tonight in Cambridge, UK. The seating is limited and filled up weeks ago, but the organisers now tell me that they've had 25 last-minute dropouts -- if you wanted to go but couldn't get a reservation, here's your chance! Follow the link below to reserve your ticket!
We made a bet, some decades ago, that the information economy would be based on buying and selling (and hence restricting copying of) information. We were totally, 100 percent wrong, and now the world’s in turmoil because of it. What does a copy-native economy look like? How do everyone from barbers to musicians become richer, more fulfilled and more civilly engaged in a real information society. And what do we do about the fact that a couple of dinosauric entertainment companies are determined to screw it up?
Cory Doctorow is a blogger, science fiction writer and journalist. He is an editor of Boing Boing, the 11th best blog in the world (according to Time Magazine). He was the 2006-2007 Canadian Fulbright Chair in Public Diplomacy at the USC Center on Public Diplomacy. He founded the software company Opencola which was later sold to the Open Text Corporation. He also writes regularly for The Guardian.
Cory will be speaking for one hour at 5:30pm on July 22nd 2008. UPDATE: Cory will now be speaking at Robinson College, Grange Road, Cambridge CB3 9AN.

Well I went and enjoyed a lucid stream of anti-DRM, pro-open web argument. I'm interested in your views on patents and GPL 3.0, another time perhaps....
Is there going to be a transcript available online? Sounds like quite an interesting talk.
I hear there'll be a video, but I don't know about a transcript.
I enjoyed the talk which was jam-packed with pearls of insights, humour and wisdom. It was very quick-fire so I'd very much like to read a transcript or watch the video to have a chance to think some more over the many points raised.
If you liked that, you'll probably also like Lessig's speech to TED:

video would be fine! On a related note, it looks like the ISPs have caved in to the BPI: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7522334.stm The whole thing makes me so angry, and nothing you can do seems to make any difference at all. Tempted to go back to uni and study IP law and try from the inside!
Thanks for coming to Cambridge to give your talk, Cory. It was enlightening and energising for those of us wishing to challenge the current concept of copyright and ownership.
I'm looking forward to the video of the talk as well, since I could probably give it a second spin, involving pauses every 3 minutes, giving my brain the time to catch up with you!
Thanks again,

Cory Doctorow talk for Cambridge Business Lectures...
In July, Cory Doctorow gave a talk on the Information Economy here in Cambridge, which was enlightening and very interesting. But so many ideas were being thrown at me all at once, I was looking forward to being able to watch the talk again, at my own ...
