NewsRudy Rucker, Terry Bisson and me in San Francico last night
Last night, Rudy Rucker and I gave a reading and a fun panel in San Francisco, as part of the SF in SF series hosted by Terry Bisson. Terry and Rudy are two of my favorite writers, and they were absolutely great. Rudy read a wild story about Alan Turing's efforts to avoid the MI5's post-war morality squad as he pursues a gay dalliance with a handsome Greek. I read a part of my forthcoming hackers-versus-the-DHS novel Little Brother. Afterwards we talked publishing. Al Billings brought his podcasting rig and recorded the whole thing and he's already got it online. This event was a lot of fun. Thanks to Terry for hosting it, and Cory and Rudy for your readings and discussion.

Really had a great time at the event. The turnout was great - both Cory and Rudy's pieces were entertaining and thought-provoking. I was also impressed by the thoughtful conversation, both on the panel and post-panel. Bravo!
Yeah, 'twere a lot of fun, and the two readings worked well together. I particularly like hearing fiction that happens to be set geographically wherever the reading is, as was the case with Cory's piece.
[...] This past Wednesday night, I was able to attend a reading in San Francisco. One of my favorite authors, Cory Doctorow, was reading a chapter from his upcoming novel, Little Brother. In addition, Rudy Rucker read one of his short stories. I am really looking forward to Little Brother. The chapter that was read was amazing. It was set in San Francisco, which was especially appropriate since the reading was right here in San Francisco. There was a nice variety in the crowd: young, old, male, female, all sorts of people. After the readings, there was a panel discussion and question and answer. It was interesting that a lot of the discussion centered on media and the future of media, not just writing. The authors were also available afterwards to chat and sign books, and they were very accommodating to everyone. If you would like to hear the event, there is a podcast available. Check out the entry at craphound.com for the link. The venue was really great as well. It was right around the corner from my office, but I had no idea it was there. It’s a small theatre, owned by Variety Children’s Charity. There is a monthly fantasy/horror/sci-fi film screening there sponsored by Borderlands Books. Check out their web site for the schedule. I enjoyed your reading, however I was slightly disappointed due to the fact that it was the same excerpt I already heard you read once before. It's a great sounding young adult novel that I'm sure I'll read too (even though I'm over the "Trusted Age" of 25 :)
Keep up the good work. I hope to hear more of this story, as well as your "Tomorrow..." novel.
Cory, !@$* that was good. it made me want to say F@#$ out loud. but now I'm wussing out again. Thanks for being so awesome.
