The video of my keynote at ToorCon 8, the annual hacker’s convention in San Diego, is online. I talked about how the future of computing is endangered by new trends in our approach to computers and the Internet, treating them as systems to be locked down in a return to the dark ages of mainframes.

    Mr. Doctorow,

I found your address to be very interesting and well presented.
I’m concerned about these issues too and glad you put them forth in such an understandable manner.
I saw it presented on Hackaday.com, who I also had to thank, for I might have otherwise missed it.

    All the best.

Hmm… netscape video doesn’t seem to be stored in the browser cache. Anyone know how to save a copy of this video?

Um, there is a link to download the video in .mp4 right on the page with the video. nothing is hidden.

i just tried accessing the video and it looks like it is not working. both in the netscape site and on the hackaday site (this is the top on one the list of top syndicators of that video) the clip does not play. it only displays the code you can use to embed the video on your own site.

There is a bit of a problem with that video. If you play it in VLC, it cuts off at around 45 minutes (not sure if it’s the file or VLC causing the problem).

the_ed, thanks for the FLV link, perhaps that will work better.
