![]() NewsFree download of official Norwegian Little Brother
I often get asked why the foreign editions of my books aren't available as a free download and the answer is simple: I rarely have any direct contact with my non-English publishers, let alone the kind of close working relationship that has enabled me to sell my UK and US publishers on the idea. But every now and again, a publisher will be excited enough about this to opt to put materials online off their own bat, and this is always wonderful for me. Samlaget is one of those publishers; Ragnfrid, my editor there, was the first non-English-language editor to buy the rights to Little Brother, right after it was published in English (her husband downloaded a free copy from my site, and shoved it into her hands!).

A worthy younger sibling to Orwell’s 1984, Cory Doctorow’s LITTLE BROTHER is lively, precocious, and most importantly, a little scary.

Being Norwegian I think it's pretty cool that a Norwegian publisher was the first to buy foreign language rights for Little Brother.
But the translated version is in Nynorsk ("New-Norwegian"[literal translation]), as opposed to Bokmål ("regular" Norwegian[literally:book dialect/speak]). And lets just say that those two "languages" does not necessarily have the same fans.
Whoa - incredibly cool. It raised some eyebrows when at first the book was only made available in part - I notice that the full version turns up after the publication made headlines in the dead-tree newspapers. Praise to klassekampen.no!

I'm also Norwegian, and I also think its great that a Norwegian publisher took this brave step. I'd definately buy the paper version if it wasn't for it being in "Nynorsk" (new-norwegian as Ole explained).
I ended up reading the book in English pdf instead, and I absolutely loved it. The way you combine explaining about different technologies Marcus and his friends use, paint a not-so-distant technology future and also manage to create an exciting storyline is absolutely amazing.
I'll be reading more of your work!
Ole, do you actually think there are two bookreading communities in Norway, divided by language? Anna Gavaldas Saman er vi mindre aleine has sold around 60 000, that would be a 10% market penetration among nynorsk users if bokmål readers refuse to read nynorsk altogether...
The pdf is a dead link.
