Doctorow here proves he’s smart, funny, and good at accessibly boiling down issues he’s passionate about.

[...] Content by Cory Doctorow: Doctorow is mainly known for writing great fiction, but he also co-founded Boing Boing, and this collection of essays on the nature of content is outstanding. He is a great example of how to use “free” as a method for actually turning a profit. He’s tried numerous experiments in this regard, which is the essence of innovation. Question: why is it mainly authors that are doing these experiments, when it is publishers that are under threat? I wish I knew the answer… [...]

[...] For my LIBR287 book report, I chose to read Content: Selected Essays on Technology, Creativity, Copyright, and the Future of the Future, which is a collection of essays written by Cory Doctorow. Doctorow is a science fiction novelist, a blogger, and technology activist writing for boingboing.net, Wired, and various other print and digital publications. The essays in Content discuss many thought provoking issues that are relevant to library services such as copyright, censorship, digital rights management, e-books, intellectual freedom, social networking. This e-book was the first book that caught my interest on the recommended reading list for the context book report, primarily due to the fact that the entire text was able to be downloaded for free here.
